MAYA ... MUSICIAN ... ARTIST ... SESSION PLAYER
With a passion for rock and metal MAYA has strived to unite her love of the violin with her love for heavy, dark music (such as thrash, NWoBHM, Doom and classical). Discovering Wood Violins in 2008 and their infamous flying ‘V’ Viper violin she was immediately equipped with the axe of choice; a custom made 5-string fretted Viper, painted with Archangel Michael's Wings (the Angel of Death) and drop tuned a fifth to include a low F string for added snarl and attitude, her trademark sound and style were formed. Her expressive, unique style of playing combines her Celtic / Indo roots to produce a sometimes haunting essence to any track she plays on.
Classically trained by a Royal Academy tutor, Erica Grajner, MAYA has gone on to play with various reputable semi-professional orchestras and groups such as Philharmonica Britannica, Whitehall Orchestra and Indian electric Violinist Chandru at the Barbican. She has also been tutored by the highly acclaimed electric violinists David Cross (King Crimson/David Cross Band) and mark wood (TSO/Mark Wood Band). Maya studies at Goldsmiths, University of London and has recently been awarded the Sarah Caple scholarship.
Most recently MAYA also played and recorded with the rock band 'CalatrilloZ'. She is now focused on writing and recording her own material and is in currently in the studio recording some super heavy metal tracks. collaboration with: Daniel Baune (Guitars, Piano, Producer), Richard Hunter (Bass Guitar), Luca Minischetti (Drums), Greg Genet (Piano).
